Education Fund Grants and Scholarships
In the years since 1985, the Education Fund of the Plastics Pioneers Association (PPA) has awarded more than $300,000 in scholarships to students in selected fields of study in colleges and universities where plastics-focused courses are taught. Scholarships are available each year to students who are committed to becoming “hands-on” workers in the plastics industry – students who are dedicated to careers in plastics as technicians or engineers.
Applicants must be undergraduate students in a 4-year college and must be citizens of the United States.
Fields of study include plastics engineering, plastics technology, polymer science, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, industrial engineering, materials engineering, packaging, manufacturing support, mold making, mold design, product design, and other similar courses.
Grants may also be made to schools with programs that train and encourage people to seek careers in the plastics industry.
The entire program is administered by the Plastics Pioneers Association (PPA). The Education Committee’s Scholarship Selection Team meets each year to select scholarship and grant recipients. This program is funded by donations from members of the Plastics Pioneers, and by other organizations, generally in honor or memory of a person who has been active in the plastics industry. The scholarships are drawn from either the investment income of the principal or from specific donations intended to “pass through” the Plastics Pioneers Association (PPA).
