“…the rest of the story” or how to get through Airport Security without Identification.
On September 7, 2023, the 3:00 am alarm woke Roz and me up with a jolt. We would have plenty of time to get ready for a 4:00 am pick up by Eric, our driver, to get to Logan Airport for our flight to Reno and the Fall PPA meeting. After going through the usual checklist:
Suitcases – check
Boarding Passes – check
Wallet – check
Cell Phone – check
We were prepared and ready for Eric.
Everything seemed to be going smoothly as we sped South on I-95. And then, on the Piscataqua River Bridge, Roz announced that she had left her purse on the kitchen counter. Of course, in the purse were her cell phone and wallet with money, ID’s and credit cards. A decision had to be made. If we turned back to collect the purse, we would both miss the flight. So, we decided it was best to drive on and if Roz could not get through security, she would return home with Eric and fly out on the 8th.
Once we arrived at Logan, Roz took off like the proverbial “bat out of hell” to the nearest TSA agent and check point. Since I had all our luggage, I checked in, waltzed through Security, and walked to the gate, which of course was the last gate on the concourse. Eric had to stay with his car for if he had left, Roz would be stranded with no money, credit cards or ID’s. With Roz not having a cell phone, we had no idea what was going on. Eric and I were constantly on our cell phones asking each other if we had seen Roz.
Ten minutes before the flight’s closing, I saw Roz running down the concourse and I called Eric to say all is well and it was okay for him to leave. After a time to calm down and catch her breath, Roz was able to tell the story of how she got through Security, without an ID, and make the flight.
The TSA agent took her to a room and called a Supervisor. He explained the situation to the Supervisor and he relayed questions to the agent such as:
“Name someone in your family and their date of birth”
“Name a church in York Harbor”
After stumbling through questions of this type, Roz was released to catch the flight.
Eric went to the house, collected the purse, took it to Fedex and it arrived at The Grand Sierra Resort the next day. The moral of the story being: Make sure your travelling companion has his/her wallet before leaving for the airport. As Paul Harvey would have said: “Now you know the rest of the story!”
