The Plastics Pioneers Association (PPA) is proud to announce that Charles (Charlie) Sears has been posthumously inducted into the Plastics Hall of Fame. Charlie became a member of the PPA in 2015, honored for his long career in the plastics industry including numerous management positions for Polymer Machinery, Automated Assemblies and AEC/Nelmor. Charlie and his wife Esther founded Dri-Air Industries, which today has desiccant-bed drying equipment running in plastics processing plants globally.
Charlie graduated with a BS in mechanical engineering and received a master’s degree in mechanical engineering from RPI. He holds patents in the area of dryer design and frequently held seminars on the often misunderstood topic of resin drying. Charlie was a member of the Plastics Industry Association (formerly SPI) where he served on the Auxiliary Equipment and Standards Committees, and the Society of Plastics Engineers.
The Plastics Hall of Fame was founded in 1972 to honor individuals who, in its judgment, were primarily responsible for raising the field of plastics to one of the major industries. Election to the Plastics Hall of Fame is a crowning achievement of any life spent in the plastics industry. Separate ceremonies for living and posthumous inductees are held every three years.
