Dave Schultz, member of the Akron, Ohio Section of the Society of Plastics Engineers, was awarded the William C. (Bill) Zekan Award for his outstanding service to the Section during the tough times brought on by the pandemic. Zekan (1920-1991) spent his career at A. Schulman, based in the Akron, Ohio area, serving in the #2 position under Alex Schulman from 1953-1956, and President from 1956-1963, and Chairman of the Board of Directors from 1963 onward.
The Akron SPE Section began giving this annual award to a member who had gone above and beyond in their dedication to making the Akron Section a success. The 2020 Award was given to Schultz for keeping the Akron Section going via Zoom meetings throughout 2020. Schultz arranged to have various speakers including the entrepreneur Jeff Hoffman of Priceline, and a plastics engineer from Berry Plastics who spoke on recycling.
“I was determined to keep this Section going in spite of Covid,” said Schultz.
Schultz spent 37 years with Akron-based Harwick Standard, selling additives for rubber and plastics. Today, in his retirement, Schultz is the Technical Editor for Rubber World magazine. “I’m honored to have received this award for the second time from the Akron SPE Section,” said Schultz.
