On May 20, 2024 David Schultz was awarded the Akron SPE Section in the third class, the Medal of Honor Lifetime Service Award 2024.

David joined the Akron SPE in 1984 when he joined Harwick Chemical as a Technical Service Representative. This time in David’s career was pivotal as he engaged while working whole heartedly to make sure to align a younger generation into this great “polymer” industry. David aligned with Dr.Viv Malpass as they started the Polymer Ambassador Program which for 25 years helped to bring a hands-on approach to K-12 students on polymers.

David has been involved with Akron SPE for the past 40 years as two-time president, Councilor, and now Secretary. He has garnered Hall of Honor in 1995 and Zekan Award in 2002 and 2021 plus is an Honored Service Member from International.

He has also inducted into the Plastic Pioneers Association as being sponsored by Dr. Viv Malpass and Dennis Meade from Cleveland.

He as well has been the SPE delegate to ACESS- Akron Council of Engineering and Scientific Societies since 2016 as I mentored Dr. Lloyd Goettler and have been President and now the Administrator.

David is the current editor of Rubber World as Technical Editor for the past 5 years.

David lives in Medina with his wife Connie of 43 years and his two children Christopher and Nicholas. He as well enjoys in his spare time cycling trails and roads near and far and helping charities including MS Society and Ohio Erie Canal Coalition plus enjoys participating in Triathlons just to keep in shape.
